This painting is from Saint Philip Baptising the Eunuch 1678 by Claude Lorrain. Maltman studied the work of Claude Lorrain as one of Constable's mentors. He uses landscapes that attract him and collapses half of the painting into an abstract torrent of colour and reference to the original, making the painting his own in both figurative and abstract states.
